Burial is a very symbolic practice, the act of interring grief and creating a place where mourning can be revisited. The occupation desecrates our graves, displaces our people and disposes of them without a trace. They rob us of the ability to move on.

I’ve come full circle and I don’t believe in therapy anymore. I understand my parents now. Our people aren’t unpacking a cognitive or behavioural pattern, they’re mourning generational atrocities, witnessing nations benefiting from the suffering and death of their loved ones.

I never really really wondered why my dad had little to no family, why he’s incapable of uttering their names. So many displaced families, so many missing people, so much loss, so much grief, so much weight to carry in mourning with nowhere to bury it.
