Today hurts in a way that’s hard to even put into words. Saying goodbye to a player is one thing — saying goodbye to a pillar of a franchise, a leader in the clubhouse, and a heartbeat of an entire fanbase is something completely different. Pete, you weren’t just the Mets’ first baseman. You were the spark, the joy, the power, and the passion that carried Queens through some of the highest highs and toughest lows. You arrived in New York as a kid with a dream, and you left as a legend. From the moment you stepped on the field in 2019, you played with an energy that felt contagious — like you understood exactly what it meant to wear “Mets” across your chest. Every home run, every roar, every fist pump felt like it came from a place of pride for this city and these fans. You gave us moments we’ll be talking about forever: The rookie home run record. The Derby dominance. The walk-offs. The leadership. The way you embraced the community, the fans, and every Mets fan who saw a bit of themselves in your passion. But what made you special wasn’t just the power — it was the heart behind it. You showed up every single day with a drive to win, to represent this franchise the right way, and to give everything you had for the people who supported you. You cared about this team and this city in a way that few players ever have. It’s never easy to watch someone like you move on. New York isn’t losing just a player — it’s losing a personality, a presence, and a genuine good soul who made this organization better just by being part of it. You meant more to the Mets than any number could ever capture. Thank you for the memories, the emotion, the dedication, and the love you brought to Queens. You’ll forever be a part of Mets history, and you’ll always have a home here. Once a Met, always a Met. 💙🧡 Thank you, Pete.

I checked in with David Stearns about his offseason plans. He said, "I want every single Mets fan to have to pick a new favorite player for 2026."
