Challenge: when you see leader not leading well, ask, "If I were the leader here, how would I have done this differently?"
Criticism is important, but that alone won't get us (or those we criticize) to solutions. Let's be in the habit of practically trying for something better.
Some of you are on your last stop before leaving Christianity! I see you, I get you, and honestly, Iām not far from you. Trying to fight for Jesus is exhausting and feels hopeless when itāsagainst a church that in all expressions often shames when a bruised reed needs deep care.
The problem with Dave Chappelleās framework is the same problem he had when white people laughedāan unsettling laughāat his jokes. Of course, they said, itās just ājokes.ā But he knew, as fails to see now, that words have power, especially when your humanity becomes the joke.
Amen pastor, I would add that it should also be easy for us to include in that prayer protection for LGBTQ individuals in this country who are still very subjected to cruel discrimination, bullying, and violence (apparently). The church must respond and do more. So letās say it!

Christianity, as we find it today, was never meant to be a weapon of control, hate, and power over others. Christianity, as imagined by Jesus, was always meant to be an instrument of liberation, dignity, and love.
