In 1996, I was 4. My father, an avid 90s Mac enthusiast, got me this. It was an elegant 2d platformer with 99 levels, adjustable play speed and very detailed graphics and textures for the time.
Now, at age 34, I rarely play video games. But if I do, I play a 2d platformer.

I did eventually also get into 3d platformers and adventure games as I got older. The N64 came out later that year and I found super mario 64. For my whole life after, I've mostly just played games like those. The games you play when your brain is goop shape your tastes forever.

I would love to make a way to play games like this on modern hardware with a controller. Something that *isn't* running a VM on my thinkpad. Maybe a raspberry pi or something like that 🤔

I think at roughly year 7, it stopped being an integral part of my outward identity. It became no different to me than being blonde, being gay, being right handed, having grey eyes, any other trait of mine etc.
