Things to think about for this week's lesson: Book of Judges
One of the most chilling phrases in Samsonโs story is this:
โI shall become like any other man.โ
That was Samsonโs fear if he lost his covenant strength.
Whatโs striking to me is that Samson didnโt lose his strength all at once. Little by little, he traded away the very things that made him spiritually strong because he wanted to be closer to the world around him.
By the end of the story, heโs blind, bound, and powerless.
I think Samsonโs story is less about his hair and more about his spiritual distinctiveness.
There is a difference between living in the world and slowly becoming spiritually indistinguishable from it.
The world often tells us that covenant living is restrictive. But in reality, our covenants are deeply connected to our spiritual strength, clarity, protection, and power.
Honestly, I think thatโs an important message for all of us right now.
