👉🏻 Of the many pictures of the relationship between God and His people, the vine and branch picture emphasizes complete dependence and the need for constant connection. The branch depends on the vine even more than the sheep depends on the shepherd or the child depends on the father. As Jesus was about to depart from His disciples, this was important encouragement. He would remain united to them and they to Him as truly as branches are connected to the main vine.

The command is to respect the seventh day (Saturday) as a day of rest (you shall do no work). This rest was for all of Israel – for the son and the servant and the stranger – even including cattle. Clearly, the act itself is condemned. God allows no justification for the ways that many often seek to justify extra-marital sex. It is not to be done, and when it is done it is sin and it damages. 👉🏻When Solomon’s temple was built, the stones were prepared at a place far from the temple building site. It was said that you couldn’t hear the sound of a hammer or axe or other iron tools at the site (1 Kings 6:7). In the same way, God prepares us first, and then He fits us into His building. Paul is compelled to add here that this is the work of God’s grace, in no way involving man’s merit. Our salvation – our rescue – from spiritual death is God’s work done for the undeserving. 💭Instead of promoting one command over another, Jesus defined the law in its core principles: love the LORD with everything you have and love your neighbor as yourself. 👉🏻Because we know the danger of the times and we anticipate the soon return of Jesus, we should be all the more energetic and committed to a right walk with God instead of a sleep-walk with God.

I will be at the NRB in Nashville this Wednesday and Thursday. I'm going to meet people and ministries who can benefit from Enduring Word's resources, especially in languages other than English. If you're going to be there and would like to meet up, feel free to message me.

“The rags of sin must come off if we put on the robe of Christ. There must be a taking away of the love of sin, there must be a renouncing of the practices and habits of sin, or else a man cannot be a Christian. It will be an idle attempt to try and wear religion as a sort of celestial overall over the top of old sins.” (Spurgeon)

❕From beginning to end, our lives are to be dedicated to God. Therefore, whatever we do, we do it to the Lord – because Jesus is our Lord! Dig Deeper: Read David Guzik's Romans 14 commentary on the Enduring Word app or our website! 📖 enduringword.com/bible-comme…

👉🏻 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus helped us to understand what this means – it means judging others according to a standard that we would not want to have applied to ourselves.

👉🏻 The young man who killed the lion and the bear, who killed Goliath, and was a successful young captain in Israel’s army, did not deny the presence of fear. There were times when he was afraid. Yet he knew what to do with that fear, to boldly proclaim His trust in God despite the fear. Something in the "does the Bible forbid polygamy" discussion I haven't yet heard said: Jesus forbade polygamy with the phrase "at the beginning" (Matt 19:4) rooting marriage back to Adam and Eve. Adam had one wife, and that was God's plan "at the beginning."

The way Jesus grounded marriage to Adam, Eve, and Eden gave clarity to something that wasn't as clear in the OT (as seen also in Eph 5:30). In theory OT saints had some excuse, but we have none such in light of Matt 19:4 and 1Tim 3:2.

We can imagine an OT saint saying, "Polygamy isn't forbidden, and other nations do it. It's fine for us." If they were to say that to Jesus, He might reply: "Look to the beginning. At the beginning, it was one man and one woman. I showed you this from the beginning."

Yesterday we posted a video I made with Dr. Lu Wing, about his latest book: "Genes of Eden: Epigenetics, Transgenerational Sin, and Addiction." I think it was an enlightening interview, and I recommend it to you. The link will be in the first comment...
