👉🏻 Of the many pictures of the relationship between God and His people, the vine and branch picture emphasizes complete dependence and the need for constant connection. The branch depends on the vine even more than the sheep depends on the shepherd or the child depends on the father. As Jesus was about to depart from His disciples, this was important encouragement. He would remain united to them and they to Him as truly as branches are connected to the main vine.

The command is to respect the seventh day (Saturday) as a day of rest (you shall do no work). This rest was for all of Israel – for the son and the servant and the stranger – even including cattle.

Clearly, the act itself is condemned. God allows no justification for the ways that many often seek to justify extra-marital sex. It is not to be done, and when it is done it is sin and it damages.

👉🏻When Solomon’s temple was built, the stones were prepared at a place far from the temple building site. It was said that you couldn’t hear the sound of a hammer or axe or other iron tools at the site (1 Kings 6:7). In the same way, God prepares us first, and then He fits us into His building.

Something in the "does the Bible forbid polygamy" discussion I haven't yet heard said: Jesus forbade polygamy with the phrase "at the beginning" (Matt 19:4) rooting marriage back to Adam and Eve. Adam had one wife, and that was God's plan "at the beginning."

The way Jesus grounded marriage to Adam, Eve, and Eden gave clarity to something that wasn't as clear in the OT (as seen also in Eph 5:30). In theory OT saints had some excuse, but we have none such in light of Matt 19:4 and 1Tim 3:2.

We can imagine an OT saint saying, "Polygamy isn't forbidden, and other nations do it. It's fine for us." If they were to say that to Jesus, He might reply: "Look to the beginning. At the beginning, it was one man and one woman. I showed you this from the beginning."
