To be honest, it never felt right that THE ZONE OF INTEREST — to me a flat-out stunner, one of the year’s few major festival hits that feels genuinely bracing in form and outlook — attracted as much critical consensus at Cannes as it did. Snarky/bemused/bad takes are overdue.
