The Scarborough Sub Aqua Club recently became legal owners of the wreck of the Orianda. She was lost in a dramatic explosion whilst sweeping mines off Cayton Bay in 1914.

The last royal holidaymaker at Filey was Princess Katherine of Greece in 1936. Within a few years, Britain would be at war. Post-war Filey changed dramatically. The royals and the super-rich now favoured the Côte d'Azur and the Italian lakes.

Filey's Crescent is facing a crisis. North Yorkshire Council's tax on second homes has resulted in many properties being placed on the market. The redevelopment of the Hylands has stalled. Paintwork is peeling off the facade of Royal Crescent Court.
