This is my ancestor Sallie Mason’s grave. The headstone reads “Our Black Mammy”. This was her reward for years of service to the white Mason family at UNC. To be buried with them. So much history to uncover and reckon with.

Such an important read. History is context and history is a map.

Good to see you tweeting! 😊
Since current events have me tweeting... Police are using as a staging ground for arresting protesters Gerrard Hall, where 3 bigoted (in their own times too) US presidents have appeared and the enslaved poet George Moses Horton gave a speech, for which UNC students mocked him.

Voting is not the only tool in our freedom toolkit, but it is a tool. Let’s build people power.

So happy for you!!
Such an honor to be named an AAG Fellow, and to be nominated by ppl who I deeply admire. Thank you 🙏🏾! All I can say is if there was ever a time for abolition geography, it is right now. Because when Ruth Wilson Gilmore said “freedom is a place,” she didn’t mean the nation-state.

Friends, @mikeogling and I plan on meeting at the James Cates memorial at UNC's Pit on Nov. 21st at 3:00. No speeches or program. Just much needed reflection and hope for the future. Probably a prayer or two. Lord knows we need it now. Y'all are welcome to join us.

My first journal article is out in the Journal of African American History’s Special Issue on The Black 1980s. The editors did a great job putting together an issue that will be useful to the current movement for Black freedom and self-determination. Check it out!❤️🖤💚

What a beautiful weekend to commemorate the anniversary of the 4 little girls who died in the 16th street bombing. We honor their memory by supporting the brilliance and promise of our youth today. Asé.

Great reporting indeed! Far too often, people in power want convenient democracy. Democracy is only cool if it suits their agenda. If not, democracy is for those who can afford and manipulate the system. 🙄 sheesh…
Excellent reporting by @triblogblog… Historic disparities we see are systemic… Chapel Hill deserves policy makers working to build inclusive community for ALL & who will fight for the historically marginalized ✊🏾… NOT those doing the biding of a wealthy landholding hierarchy
