Martin Luther King Day is a day of observation, not celebration. Not a day off, but a day on. At a time when our nation is deeply divided, my parents believed our work must bring people together and protect our democracy by confronting poverty, racism, and violence.
We are not called to idolize them, but to live up to their ideals. Each of us has a role in realizing the dream, and one of the most powerful ways to do so is through service and building the Beloved Community for future generations.
