Motivation from performance - what a group of mathkids! Amazing job Ms. Burri.
Thank you @dduff77 for coming to our classroom today! We had a great time learning how to use relational rods to represent different parts and whole numbers of fractions. 🤩 #OcsbMath @StClareOCSB

The Grade 6s @StLukeOttawa learned how Cuisenaire rods can be used to work on algebra problems. They modelled some equalities and then subbed values into algebraic expressions to solve them! #ocsbMath #Cuisenaire #ocsb @dduff77

Great connection to Double Number Line and PartS Whole Box!
Working with grade five students today! Some fantastic thinking around ratios, proportion, patterning and decomposition!

Thanks St Catherine staff and students. So many great moments for me. Such an invitational culture.
It was a pleasure to host Doug Duff at our school yesterday and engage in rich conversations about how to help all learners succeed in math. @dduff77 @JeannieArmstr20

Yes, and If you use you 1/8th benchmark or partition into eighths. You could estimate there are 8 68's 1/2 of 68. So a bit more than 8 1/2 times.

Fabulous flexibility with rods. Great how you worked in Fractions greater than 1. Now we can visualize all the adding and difference between fractions with unlike denominators.
Cuisenaire rod fraction exploration today, building fraction sense. @dduff77 #iteachmath

Gr.8 students at @NG_Academy used rods to build an understanding of linear relationships, and to see connections between y=3x and y=3x 2. A parts-whole model allows them to think flexibly about ways to describe the relationships bw variables! @CCRCE_NS @CcrceM @MCubedCCRCEMATH

This is great! Look at all the thinking as they uncover number relationships and examine PartS Whole reasoning.
Students school-wide are working with Cuisenaire rods to develop additive reasoning, a need identified through Math Up Leadership common tasks. This can unlock foundational concepts for students and gives exposure and practice with a linear model. Go @NG_Academy! @CCRCE_NS

Look. closely at the Embedded Quantity Decomposition. Nice work transferring to angles - which are PartS of a Whole!
