USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving. Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free. I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these." "They just come with the table, man." They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner. This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat. I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared. "Did we…?" "Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless." Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined. My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude." Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man. I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy. Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived. I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most. Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

Why would anyone care what the proper Italian pronunciation for something is I used to work in this nice Italian kitchen and the sous was Florentine and a piece of shit moron so I would purposely mispronounce words because it was funny to watch him freak out

You’ve won a paid nap in the mechanical room for the rest of your shift but you must stay in one region the entire time. Which one are you choosing?

Not in union construction work 💪
Replying to @denjiest
brother in every work environment in the world if you told your boss to "suck your dick and balls" (verbatim) you'd lose your job instantly. theres no reason she should get a pass when nobody else does.

When I was working at the South Pole, there was a former NASA engineer there who gave a presentation on his work with just the shoulder joints in a space suit.
NASA’nın geliştirdiği bu robotik pençe, sıfır yerçekiminde tutulması neredeyse imkânsız görünen kayaları bile kolayca kavrayabiliyor.

To try to prevent this they use a lot of complicated engineering to create specialized joints and hinge points in the suit for the human body. But these usually involve having to rotate your arms in a specific pattern just to say, flex your shoulder upward.

That’s why you see astronauts sort of lumbering around like Teletubbies, it’s really difficult to bend down and pick things up, so for collecting samples they’ll use specialized tools like these during space walks.

Performative militancy is probably the most common left pathology.

We are building workplace nuclei, not ideological franchises. Labor work should be assessed by organizing metrics, not by public visibility alone.

Orient to durability rather than immediacy. The American labor movement will not be transformed by one convention, one social-media wave, one presidential cycle, or one dramatic general strike.
