🇮🇳 This #IndependenceDay, as we salute the heroes of India’s political freedom, let’s also honour the unsung heroes of financial freedom — Mutual Fund Distributors. For 60 years, they’ve empowered millions to achieve economic independence. Here’s to freedom — in spirit & in wealth! #HappyIndependenceDay #MFDs #FinancialFreedom

“Professional money managers are worried about their annual results and may take irrational decisions to protect their annual performance record. Individual investors, like you and I,have nobody to report, and yearly performance does not mean anything to us.We have no benchmark to beat and have no fear of capital flight. There are no quarter and year ends, and no performance linked bonus linked to calendars.” Naved Abdali

What role Financial Regulators can play to prevent CLIMATE CHANGE ? By NOT INSISTING on full page newspaper Ads to announce Public issues( IPO/ FPO etc). Most part of the contents of these Ads are always in micro fonts. All prospective IPO subscribers can access the Prospectus / offer documents digitally. Only essential info can be printed in a small box giving a website address for further details. Imagine the trees that could have been saved…..!!

A small finance bank advertises during cricket telecast comparing ‘aapka savings bank teen mahine mein ek baar interest deta hai … mera bank har mahine’. Firstly ‘frequency’ does not necessarily means quantum. ‘Subtle Misleading’ appears to be intended Secondly who wants to invest in a savings bank for Monthly income ??? MF ka SWP hai naa!!!! Small soch badlo aur savings-investment mein fark jaano.

Passive is the way for ‘Average’ investors.
This is such a powerful image. Over the last 20 years, S&P 500 has generated a 9.5% CAGR but an average investor has made only 3.6% It highlights so many observations, (1) 60% equity and 40% debt portfolios made 7.4% but the average investor made 3.6% (2) 40% equity and 60% debt portfolios made 6.4% but the average investor made 3.6% (3) 100% fixed income portfolio (Bonds) made 4.3% but the average investor made 3.6% The only good thing is that the average investor could beat inflation but this dynamics could be very different in an Emerging Economy like ours. The average investor needs to be more disciplined and needs help in investing. Photo credit - @kumarsamit

It reveals and builds characters of people who participate in it. It rewards patient and disciplined students while punishes greedy and fearful ones.
Every year on September 5th, I wish the markets a happy Teacher’s Day. To this day, that is the only teacher to whom I have paid fees more than once to learn the same lesson.
