Ego when you ask him to create a philosophy where players actually pass to each others like normal human beings:

It doesn't contradict Charles' existence. Hugo is more like a Karasu, a midfielder who can dribble, defend and create. Charles is purely a #10, a chance creator. The roles overlap at times because BL does this thing where players always do multiple roles, but Charles is a more creative player. At the end of the day, Hugo is too "logical" to be as creative as Charles who is illogical. Also, it is very likely that Loki is captivated by Charles' way of playing and isn't as much interested in Hugo's way of thinking This would mean Hugo would initially get his spotlight, but later on we come to find out that Loki wanted Charles to get better for xyz reasons.

We don't even truly know why Rin got benched by Ego tbh. He said one player didn't believe they were the best. Could be Karasu, Isagi or Rin. 1 thing's for sure. France totally dominated Japan whether Rin decided to sell the game or not, lol.
