"If you read a book in 2025—just one book—you belong to an endangered species." This made me sad. (Someone could probably publish a thesis about how a drop in reading has led to a drop in overall empathy.) theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

A great journalist but also just a really great human. It’s been nearly two decades since I saw him and I feel so sad about this Remembering Tom Robbins, Journalist Who Crusaded for New Yorkers in Need thecity.nyc/2025/05/28/remem…

I can’t recall anything specific, only that my encounters w/ Tom at the Voice were always warm. I’m left with a sense of his empathy. He was always kind to us, a tremendous human. Rare to be able to say that about a celebrated journalist, especially one who’s a NYC legend.

A quote from the obit: ā€œHe’s the last of the long line of those kind of hard-hitting muckraking journalists…Several were grumpy old men. As the years went on, he was the opposite of a grumpy old man. He was incredibly kind. He had a sense of humor.ā€ Yea, that’s what I remember.
