Labette County junior running back Deontae Fields has risen to the occasion this season, helping fill the void left by injured standout Jamal Jackson, a 1,800-yard rusher in 2024. Fields has carried the load with 156 rushing attempts for 1,107 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also showcasing his elite speed as he was also part of the Grizzlies’ record-setting 4x100 relay team last spring. In last week’s first-round playoff win over Bonner Springs, Fields delivered again, rushing for 158 yards on just 18 carries with 2 touchdowns. Labette County now turns its attention to a home matchup against Chanute in round two.
