It it amazing how consequently flat earthers can not tell "their" Gleason map apart from other Azimuthal equidistant maps. The map shown below is centered on London, Antarctica shows as landmass, there is no "ice wall". The map is round, but it certainly is no "flat earth map".

When you see how the cables are laid out from continent to continent, it makes no sense on a globe map, only on a FE map does it make perfect sense.

True country sizes on a North pole centered azimuthal equidistant projection, aka "Gleason map". #truesize #flatearthmap

I have been building a little webapp, inspired by the true-size app made by @thetruesize, only here it has an Azimuthal Equidistant projection. It is meant to generate better understanding for this projection and the amount of distortion it can introduce. To be online soon ...

Flat earthers choose believing over knowing. Within believing they choose the simplest possibility. Thats why they are flat earthers!

Today we’re excited to introduce a brand-new map layer on FlightAware: Flat Earth View 🌍 Early testers report one small issue: long-haul flights occasionally sail off the map. We’re looking into it. #AprilFools #AvGeek #FlightAware

A local sun circling a flat earth would vanish while still high in the sky according to flat earthers.

Flerf @PostNASA blocked me over pointing out the impossibility of a local sun. Must have hurt his feelings ;)

Actually it does not work at all. A local sun circling over flat earth does not resolve to real world observation. x.com/deprojected/status/195…

I do understand that you have chosen not to accept the globe model because there are things that you find hard to believe. I do NOT understand that you don't apply the same amount of skepticism when it comes to flat earth.

Why a local sun over flat earth is impossible. The sun's azimuth and altitude can easily be measured by anyone anywhere on earth, regardless of earths shape. For example a person living in New York City would see today's course of the sun like below. 1/

There is no way a local sun circling flat earth can reproduce the real world observations that everyone can make, anytime, anywhere! The problem worsens the further south you look and around the December solstice. 4/

Globe comparison with the same data works just fine. Does this prove globe earth? Maybe not, but it certainly provides strong evidence for it. Does this disprove flat earth? It pretty sure does! A local sun over flat earth is impossible! 5/5

Repeated analysis to use more precise map data and added better explanation. Observation clearly aligns with earth curvature.
More analysis, different image. The photo was taken with my telescope, the mountain is "Schneeberg" in Austria. Camera elevation was 164m, peak elevation is 2075m. Red is the line of sight, which at one point intersects a darker ridge closer than the distant mountain.

For many many centuries people were trying to better understand our world and having precise maps was an essential part of that understanding. For some reason the flat earth community makes a big deal out of NOT having a working global map. 🤷‍♀️
