Dr Ambedkar was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the reserved Jessore–Khulna seat in East Bengal in July 1946, with support from Jogendranath Mandal, who at the time was aligned with the Muslim League. Next month was Direct Action by League. Mandal remained with league, and later became the first Law Minister of Pakistan after Partition. However, after Partition, that Bengal seat of Dr Ambedkar went to East Pakistan, and he lost his place in the Assembly. He was then assisted by the Congress leadership and got re-elected from Bombay in 1947 after M. R. Jayakar vacated his seat to facilitate Ambedkar’s entry into the Constituent Assembly. Everyone likes to invoke history selectively, according to political convenience.

The 6 SC reserved constituencies of Paschim and Purba Medinipur have on average 61% non-SC Hindu population. BJP won 5 of these with massive margins. This trend was seen in 75% of all reserved seats with less than 30% SC population. The Hindus were united. Do not divide them.

पश्चिम बंगाल में BJP ने बंपर जीत दर्ज की। पूरे देश में जबरदस्त माहौल बना। UGC के बाद ये पहला ऐसा मौका था जब सोशल मीडिया पर नैरेटिव वार पूरी तरह से BJP के फेवर में था। हिंदुत्व के जिस नैरेटिव को UGC ने खंड-खंड कर दिया था वो एक बार फिर जुड़ता दिखा। ब्राह्मण/सवर्ण/दलित/OBC सबने वहाँ हिंदू बनकर वोटिंग किया और पूरा चुनाव हिंदू - मुस्लिम मुद्दे पर हुआ। लेकिन चुनाव के बाद क्या हुआ? नतीजों के तुरंत बाद ही फिर शुरू हो गया जातिवाद का नंगा नाच। जिस पश्चिम बंगाल में दलित/सवर्ण/OBC सब हिंदू बने थे उन्हें जातियों में बनता जाने लगा। मुस्लिम-सवर्ण एकता को चूर-चूर कर देने का दम्भ भरा जाने लगा। एक बार फिर जातिवाद का नैरेटिव खड़ा किया जाने लगा। हैरानी की बात ये कि ये सब विपक्ष नहीं कर रहा है। सरकार जुड़े कुछ सलाहकार कर रहे हैं। उन्हें ये ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि जब आपका नाम सरकार से जुड़ जाए तो आपकी अधिक सावधानी रखनी चाहिए।
