October 10th was my biggest hit ever as well- here is my personal approach and the thought process behind it: During the market cycle there are market conditions that favor going aggressive and there are market conditions in which your sole focus should be capital preservation and a conservative approach. We will call this “easy” mode and “hard” mode for simplicity. There are windows of “easy” mode throughout the cycle, but the MOST significant easy mode will always come at the end of the cycle during the peak “euphoria/greed” stage. Everything up until that point is relatively tame. So your approach should generally be (imo)- put your foot on the gas during easy mode, put your foot on the breaks outside of easy mode, with the ultimate aim to SURVIVE until that golden window that we only get at the end of the cycle, at which point you swing for the fences because the odds are stacked wildly in your favor. Right now, this chop is certainly NOT “easy” mode- so move slowly, don’t take unnecessary risks, buy low, don’t trade much (if at all), just SURVIVE. When the next easy mode window rolls around and you are up 2-5x from current levels, you now have a “cushion” on your portfolio that allows you to actually play ball and take a loss here or there without wiping yourself out. Try growing your stack by being more aggressive in that easy mode and ideally by the time the golden window rolls around, you’re well positioned to milk it for a final 10-20x. At the end of it all you’re back up 20-100x from current levels instead of being at zero.
