Political-Analytical Statement and Official Report of the “Constructing a Democratic Iran” Conference Released
The Democratic Platform of Iran (PDI) has released the political-analytical statement and official report of the international conference “Constructing a Democratic Iran” presenting the main discussions, perspectives, and conclusions of the event.
The conference was held on June 11, 2026, at the European Parliament in Brussels, with the participation of Members of the European Parliament, political and academic figures, human rights advocates, civil society activists, and representatives of various nations, communities, and social and political groups from Iran.
The statement emphasizes that Iran’s political, economic, social, environmental, and human rights crises have made an inclusive dialogue about the country’s future and the path toward a democratic transition more necessary than ever. Participants stressed that Iran’s future cannot be defined simply by a change of government, but requires rebuilding political and social relations on the basis of freedom, equality, democratic participation, and respect for diversity.
According to the report, one of the conference’s main themes was the role of Iran’s different nations and communities in building a democratic political order. Speakers highlighted the multi-national, multicultural, multilingual, and multi-religious reality of Iran and stressed the need to end policies of denial, assimilation, and excessive centralization, while creating democratic mechanisms that ensure equal participation for all citizens.
Another important topic was the role of women, civil society, young people, and the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement in the democratic transition process. The movement was described as a powerful expression of society’s demand for freedom, equality, human dignity, and a new relationship between citizens and political power.
The final statement also emphasized the importance of transitional justice, media freedom, judicial independence, the protection of fundamental rights, environmental justice, and cooperation among democratic and pro-freedom forces. It stated that lasting stability and security in Iran and the region can only be achieved through democracy, justice, and popular participation, not through war or foreign military intervention.
The Democratic Platform of Iran concluded by stating that it views this conference not as a one-time event, but as part of an ongoing process aimed at expanding democratic dialogue about Iran’s future. The Platform reaffirmed its commitment to continuing cooperation and dialogue among the country’s diverse democratic and freedom-seeking forces.
