A police cordon is in place in Forbury Gardens as officers investigate.

The Maiwand Lion is such an iconic symbol of Reading. For this to happen in somewhere so popular but also so ordinary is both surreal and tragic. I won't speculate on what has happened but thoughts go out to everyone affected
