We still don't know if there's any surveillance video of the January death of ICE detainee Geraldo Lunas Campos, which the coroner ruled a homicide. But GAO looked into it and found that evidence was "missing or destroyed"
this comes after DHS tried to deport two men who witnessed the events leading up to Lunas Campos's death and bravely shared those stories with me on the record washingtonpost.com/immigrati…
new report from GAO blames problems at Camp East Montana, the facility where Lunas Campos was killed, on the Trump administration's rushed timeline and selection of a contractor with no previous detention experience.

We published most of the data used to report this story in the hope it can be used to shine more light on the use of force against ICE detainees. You can download it here: github.com/wpinvestigative/i…

Update: ICE has switched contractors at Camp East Montana and said the facility will stay open: wapo.st/415gawR
I corrected my earlier story, which incorrectly said a document showed ICE was taking steps to close CEM. The doc only said ICE planned to terminate contract
Camp East Montana was supposed to be the Trump administration's model for a new breed of large-scale, makeshift immigrant detention centers. Eight tumultuous months later, ICE is preparing to close it. New from me @washingtonpost
Two companies have long dominated ICE detention: Geo Group and CoreCivic. Their business model is now under threat as ICE begins turning to less experienced firms to oversee its planned detention warehouses.
