There's no wrong way to run an adventure. Add a frog plane to Avernus. Introduce golem mecha into Frostmaiden. Start a fishery in Saltmarsh instead of doing anything with ghosts.
All that matters is you're having fun. If that's the case, the world setting / module did its job.
