The gym was never supposed to save you. In 1953, Jeremy Morris studied London bus workers. Conductors climbed 500 to 750 steps per shift. Drivers sat. The conductors had dramatically lower rates of heart disease.

This is not a motivation problem. It is a design problem. We have built lives that make us the driver. Then wonder why an hour at the gym does not undo the other twenty-three. The fix is structural, not heroic.
