Oh wow. What fantastic news to wake up to on a Monday morning. My book The Shape of Fantasy has been shortlisted for the @mythsoc Award for the 2nd time. Check out that list. I can't believe I've been nominated again alongside such stellar company @amayor @Ebonyteach

I am reading the third twilight book now and it’s literally an apology for grooming. How is this a real book that exists and was published. Quill has “imprinted” on a two year old 🤢

Can't believe (but can) that I got rejected for a job with Tor Publishing. No prior experience as editor required. Only a passion for fantasy fiction. 🤔🙄

Having to buy five different copies of the EXACT SAME BOOK just to read the bonus scenes of different characters is a new low in book capitalism. Don't do this to your readers. No one should have to spend 100 on five copies of the SAME BOOK.
The emerging 'bonus chapters' trend doesn't sit right with me and it needs to be addressed. Here are my full thoughts on this terrible trend within publishing👇 youtube.com/watch?v=0i8lkkV3…

At Strange Horizons, we’ve long connected to the vast majority of our audience here, on this app. That has been a little stressful in recent months. If you’re transitioning your bird app activity elsewhere, where can we find you?

My mind is melting at the realization that (the male) half of society apparently thought we were playing happy homemaker with our Barbies all this time💀 YMMV and my friends’ Barbies lived SUPER varied lives but… that wasn’t one of them

I’m quite used to the cruelty students can face when they apply for a US visa but this one broke me. We offered admission to a stellar, talented & hardworking student. After months of work and hundreds of dollars, an embassy officer saw him for 5 mins & said no. why? …

No matter how many times I hear it, I will always chuckle when I hear the name name "Howard Handupme" delivered in that serious news announcer voice

Reading @rcbregman's Human Kind, which takes the hypothesis that humans are innately good but that experts, politicians, public etc will go out of the way to reject that idea in every discipline/area. I'm only 17 pages in but I'm hooked. #amreading

Things that 12 years of university did not prepare me for: the 4YO crying and terrified to go to school because he had a dream that there were a bubble monster at school that ate all the sausages

One of my favourite nerdy Titanic facts is that the process of filming the 1997 film actually helped solve a big mystery about the sinking: what happened to the grand staircase.

Managed 3 hours of sleep last night due to #latecapitalism -induced #insomnia Dropped the kid off for a taster day at his new primary school. I thought folks would enjoy the pic of the route I took back to my car. Applied for 2 more jobs (my 14th in 4 weeks). Time for a nap.

Took me 15 months to reread #TheMistsofAvalon. I had to keep stopping because there is SO MUCH INCEST. And, of course, because I'm reading it for my research on motherhood in fantasy, I had to take notes on all the lovely defense of incest quotes. 🤮🤮

A Red flag in publishing... someone who 'doesn't actually want to engage with the peer review process'... Advice: 'read the STYLE SHEET'.. 'read the guidelines...' thank you Paul March Russell! @foundation_sf #sf #crsf2023

Have you ever been woken up by someone aggressively poking you in the face asking, " what are you doing, mummy?" (Don't have kids)

Academic folks: is anyone keen to write a chapter on Sailor Moon? If yes, please contact me with urgency. Exact topic is negotiable. It’s for the Routledge Companion on Superhero Studies, which I’m editing with @CDWilson ☺️👍

The College wanted me to spend £180 getting the booklets reprinted with the changes they demanded. Now remember, the other half of my work was about fighting fascism - people who love to ban books! So obviously I refused to censor my work. 10/17
