Let’s talk about why Stargate SG-1 got started in the first place? -Apophis visits Earth and leaves several dead. -O’Neill returns to active duty and he’s ordered to bring Jackson home and naturalise the threat. -Joined by Carter, we discover the gate can take us anywhere.

The standing orders were clear: find technology to defend Earth against the Goa’uld. This is my problem: Present day, we are defended. The questions the new show must answer: Why now? Why these characters? What new threat can Earth not defend itself against? If not Earth, or the Milky Way, and no lineage with her own mythology, why should we care?

The journey home has been done. The journey to the centre of the universe is an open question. How do you create a clean jumping-on point that’s as compelling as those early seasons of SG-1 when the stakes felt real? The only answer, I’ve come to realise, is a reboot.

My evidence for the prosecution. Listen to what @JeffBezos said in 2018: "When anecdotes and data disagree, the anecdotes are usually right, as there is likely something wrong with the way the data is being measured." #SaveStargate
I don’t want to be *that guy* and I do want to #SaveStargate, but how do we know the Martin Gero version is actually any good? The execs and writers room know something we don’t and it’s been axed for reasons we haven’t been told, beyond failing ‘broad appeal’.

Prime Video has to either *recruit Prime households* or deliver ad audiences *at scale*. Amazon decided the show couldn't do either job.

So, what’s gone wrong. - how are they’re measuring the potential audience for the new show? - why does it no longer align with Prime Video’s content strategy? - the sentiment reports from X and elsewhere will be on execs radars, but will it be enough?

commentary on here has shown the best of SG-1, not the other two shows. Gero said the new series would be its own separate chapter, but I’d argue, a less ambitious, back to basics, military sci-fi adventure with a Richard Dean Anderson/Kurt Russell lead is the route they’ll take.

I’d add, a premise that’s present day and leans into conspiracy, rather than a far flung mission which is where Stargate Atlantis and Universe failed.

A look at Stargate without Martin Gero, we can’t let this happen again.

Posted this two days ago, I had a sneaking suspicion
Remember those shelved movie sequels? Stargate is mythology. The Amazon show should to be steeped in mythology if it’s going to be a half as good as SG-1.

I’ve noticed there’s absolutely no want to pursue limitless clean energy. SG-1 imagined an energy source that makes everything we’re chasing look small. Ik it’s scifi, but where’s the ambition?

The context is I rewatched Threads this weekend for the first time the diner setting board me stiff, yet it’s a great plot point to pick up on in the new show
