I have a student with a severe peanut/cashew allergy. As an educator, I'm required by law to protect that student. No matter I love peanut butter, that it's my religion to eat it daily, I can't have nuts in my classroom. Period.Same with masks--if it protects one child, we do it.

America doesn't de-escalate. It normalizes. School shootings were something unthinkable. Now, children prepare for them as part of their curriculum.
What happened yesterday was unthinkable, and now it will be a concern every election. This doesn't go away when Trump does.

Last year at school, I had to do both lockdown and active shooter drills. Once, my teachers were told to look around for a heavy object to be used in self-defense. While my gym teacher had a baseball bat, my English teacher was standing by the door, holding a metal stapler.
