Gravel pits in the Fens are not the most picturesque places but Purple Heron, purring Turtle Doves, breeding Marsh Harriers and a Squacco round the corner (and no gravel being washed on a Sunday so the Grey and Yellow Wagtails can play in it) is pretty nice.

Plus if you use the “compare” feature and line up the birds correctly, there is infinite comedy to be had.
Have to hard vouch for the Sibley Guide. Both the physical version and the app are amazing, I really enjoy how it uses drawn illustrations instead of photos. The compare feature is so useful. It costs like ten dollars, but if you want my favorite field guide…that’s it

The 200th species for my new county - very landlocked and the smallest in England at a bigly 15 x 10 miles. 🥂 #Rutland #waders #KentishPlover Video by @Rutlandbirds 💚

#Waders. This spring has been particularly good for Woodsands.

Of course the day after #globalbigday the weather gets bad & drops the all rarities in. Still, 115 species in the sunshine from 330am to the last Tawny Owl tremolo & we won the inter-state bird race: a lot of fun and bird music 🎶 💚 @Team_eBird @global_birding

Don’t worry AI won’t take your job, it is trying to convince me that a cerceta pardilla is a gargeney. It’s not. The only similarity is they’re both ducks.

Russian White-fronted Geese getting feisty. This winter has been a good year for them. (Unlike other things from Russia) #birding

In a remarkable story from Slovenia, a breeding pair of White Wagtails travelled all over the country in a lorry last summer, successfully raising young: bit.ly/4a4tKVG

One of those days when the only thin band of rain in the entire country is slowly moving over you. No big deal if you have feathers though. Smew, unusually showy Cetti’s, & best of all got home in time to find a Firecrest in the garden😃 Rain is your friend, sometimes. ☔️#birding

Get in! Tundra Bean Goose on the patch. Only 3 since 1977 in the county. Would have probably been dead or confining to a nursing home if I’d missed these 😏#Birding

No hay violación al derecho internacional porque fue el propio Maduro quien solicitó que fueran por él, y la petición fue aceptada y atendida, mire:

Lovely Big Day of inter county competitive birding. Which we lost. But 7 Smew, 14 Russian White-fronted Geese & a last minute Woodcock before I managed to drive my truck into a bog & sink it. Over 100 birds for our team on a windy, frigid New Year’s Day tho, always fun! #birding

Time for a terrible photo quiz. How many birds can you identify here, flying past my cellphone in the fog. #birding #birds

OK folks, here's something you don't see every day. Literally. A male Hen Harrier, harassing a Peregrine Falcon, and oh, that just happens to be a Merlin watching the commotion. @Natures_Voice @RSPBEngland

I wonder how many people would assume this is AI? It is in fact a pic of a Common Sunbird-Asity (Neodrepanis coruscans ) taken by Lev Frid in Madagascar, to which they’re endemic. #Birds

So let people shop around for an air traffic controller with a 4.7 star rating and 50% off for this weekend only? Totally preferable to checks and standards.

The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy. No matter how bad the service is at your DMV (sorry to pick on DMVs), you still have to use your DMV, because it’s a monopoly.
