Vietnamโs manufacturing exports have soared to 90% of GDP.
But its manufacturing value added has not grown by much. Vietnam still does mostly low-value assembly while importing high-value components from China, Korea, Japan, etc.
Any nation seeking to develop through manufacturing needs to study Vietnamโs experience. Likely many jobs created, but moving up the value chain seems more limited.
