The longer the #Makerfield election campaign goes on, the more my view of @AndyBurnhamGM goes down. It seems he'll say whatever the last person he talked to has persuaded him is a good idea. No consistency, coherence or vision. Starmer with a bit of personality.

Given she has previously described Leadbetter's bill as an empowering change to healthcare, your colleague may not be the sharpest tool in the toolbox. Never mind her history of racist tweets.
Absolutely infuriating that one of my colleagues has decided that what Parliament should focus on in the coming months - given everything going on in the world and here at home - is bringing back the assisted dying bill. Head in hands.

A really interesting reflection on learning ministry from Brother Cadfael here from Mark Clavier open.substack.com/pub/markcl…

While standing on the quay, I had a quirky query about this and found myself in a quandary. I quickly decided the quality of this post failed to qualify as intelligent. How dumb can you get?
No words start with "Q"and ends with "Y" Prove me wrong.?

Not only does that "hand of God" make it hard to take seriously, what on earth is that "even if you were the better team" line doing in a text in which the "you" being addressed is (ostensibly) God?
A prayer for the World Cup 2026. ⚽

Thanks to @MadsDavies I took this quiz: theodramatist.com/early-mode… and was slightly surprised by the answer. I may be in the wrong denomination!

Apart from the general ridiculousness of this, I can't help but wonder: are those on the left or those on the right facing ad orientem?
From 4:00 a.m. onwards, each priest can celebrate his own Mass in one of the three tents set up with several altars. This was one of them.

I made a @CofEWorcester video with the help of one of our church schools. Trying to talk about the Trinity with children without falling into gross heresy is always a challenge (which I hope I've avoided) vimeo.com/1194416334?share=c…

I so agree with this Substack from @FraserNelson pointing out the hypocrisy of a politician blaming judges for applying the laws the politicians make.

Things to make the internet explode: Pope quotes Tolkien!
In his first encyclical, Pope Leo XIV quotes J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.” (Photo: Vatican Media)

Fascinated to find this statement being made in 1945 "many ordination candidates know their Bibles less well than most educated children fifty years ago". Plus ça change!

I see we're now at the mangling Emily Dickinson stage of grief. Stand by for quotes lifted directly from 80s power ballads.

I think "a sherry of bishops" is a novel but very Anglican collective noun! (Although I can't help but wonder if Bird intended a different word.)
How Did "Orthodox" Christianity Win Over its Rivals? Did Christian heresy hunters outmaneuver their rivals? Did a sherry of bishops impose their narrow view of faith on a diverse and vibrant church? How did what we know as “orthodoxy” actually win? open.substack.com/pub/michae…

It depends what you mean by proportional. Any kind of party list system would be unacceptable when there I such wide distrust of party. OTOH, an STV system would give more people a real say, and avoid the possibility of people being elected with <20% of the vote.
“Politics is fragmenting, we are in unprecedented circumstances” Polling Expert Professor Sir John Curtice says that a proportional voting system is not on the cards despite a five-way split in UK politics #Peston

It is, I think, ludicrous that a council CEO (Hereford population <200,000) should be paid a salary that is basically (give or take a couple of thousand) the same as the Prime Minister's.
A new chief executive has been appointed at Herefordshire Council - Paul Satoor, who's been the top boss at Wirall Council and the DVSA. It was approved by councillors in a behind-closed-doors meeting today - the role pays £169,000 a year. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0e2…

I'm just bemused that when (for a Christian) God incarnate spends most of his time telling profound stories, so many Christians reject the idea that the God he reveals also inspires others to tell profound stories.
Did N.T. Wright just dismantle the traditional view of Adam and Eve? 🧐 In our latest discussion, Wright suggests the biblical couple might have been "hominids" chosen for a specific purpose rather than the first biological humans. Is this a necessary bridge between faith and science, or a step too far? The push-back has been rancorous! michaelfbird.substack.com/p/…

This point needs shouting from the rooftops in the face of the kind of gaslighting proponents of the bill are hawking round the studios

7. Lord Wolfson points out that a number of MPs “only passed the bill” on the promise of “detailed scrutiny here.” “So…the idea that we should uncritically defer to the House of Commons seems to me the parliamentary equivalent of ‘Heads I win, tails you lose.’”
