"Activity for single family detached houses in the city of Vancouver has enjoyed a noticeable uptick over the past month or so," says @SteveSaretsky's newsletter. "One or two months does not make a trend, but if and when the market shifts it always happens in the single family detached market first. It starts in the city and then ripples outwards. "Vancouver house sales were up 38.5% year-over-year last month, with inventory down 10%. "This is in sharp contract to the Greater Vancouver condo market which saw sales down 7%. "Single family is always the first to move. It shouldn’t be a surprise, considering we no longer build new houses. It’s a hard market to oversupply." (Note that 'single-family detached houses' in B.C. usually contain suites, or allow laneway houses.) #vanre #vanpoli #bcpoli

Right now, as Russians continue to strike #Kyiv with over a dozen of ballistic missiles, the Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv‑Pechersk Lavra — a UNESCO World Heritage site and priceless cultural landmark — has been struck and is burning. A brutal assault on our people and our heritage. This is the true face of Russia’s Orthodox values.

I'm glad to see Premier @Dave_Eby and the @bcndp acknowledge what I maintained (ahem ahem) in 2021 and in 2024. As Eby admits, via @VaughnPalmer today, the New Democrats had been too concerned about “removing the stigma” on drug use. This headline below was from my 2021 piece: "How anti-stigma campaign mostly misses the point" 1/2 #bcpoli @AdamZivo @somerspsych vancouversun.com/opinion/col…

In defence of @theJagmeetSingh, all kinds of ppl run up to him & take selfies all the time. I was on Danforth two weeks ago, and he went to get two ice cream cones at a café, and a bunch of guys on the terrace giddily ran inside to take pics. Doubt he knew who they were
Not cool @theJagmeetSingh. Not cool at all.

Australia’s housing obsession is one of its greatest weaknesses. Rising house prices are not a sign of prosperity. What they actually tell you is that more money is being borrowed from the banking sector to buy homes. The cause of rising house prices is rising household debt, and that is unproductive. House prices are now five times more expensive than consumer goods compared to 1970. We should never have allowed that to happen. Housing should not be an asset. It is not something you should profit out of. It is something you should live in. The people who really benefit from rising house prices are real estate agents and property developers, not the families who live in them. We are paupers living inside castles. Paying a fortune on the mortgage, a fortune on private schools, and out of the remainder, just trying to live. The colossal new retail and housing development at Oakridge Park in Vancouver dubs itself a “global shopping destination.” Ads often mention it's just 15 minutes from Vancouver @yvrairport, where signs point travellers toward it. A sudden 70% water cut with little warning is putting North Okanagan growers at risk of massive losses in the tree fruit sector. Farmers understand the need to manage drought conditions, but decisions of this magnitude require consultation and collaboration - not a heavy-handed approach. I'm starting to hear water restriction issues popping up in other parts of the province, too. Growers deserve a seat at the table before their livelihoods are put on the line. @bcagcouncil #BCpoli countrylifeinbc.com/vernon-g…

Non-indigenous people don’t block indigenous people from anywhere. The First Nation attitude seems to be, we’ll use the highways, hospitals, schools, power grids and stores you built without restrictions. But reserves & anything we say is traditional land can be put off limits.
