John is absolutely right. James Stalker (minister of the Free Church of Scotland [United Free Church]): “Sacred as is the parent’s right to the obedience of the child, there is a term to it. It is the office of the parent to train the child to independence.

An adult woman who decides to move out and change churches and find a good man to marry is not rebelling against her parents. She is an adult. She is under no obligation to stay home and certainly under no obligation to marry a guy who likes the New Christendom conference.

R. Rollock: "I grant that the works of regeneration are necessary unto eternal life promised in the Gospel, but not as merits...but as the means and way...they may also be said to be causes, after a sort: for they please God in Christ, and in some respects move him... 1/2

Does God promise eternal life to his people who persevere in good works/sincere obedience? If you have been reared in NAPARC circles, then you will probably think that the answer is obvious: a hard no. But deeper study in Scripture and the Reformed tradition challenges you to
The Church of Scotland confused law and gospel. God doesn't promise eternal life for sincere obedience. Sincere obedience is only possible if u are born again, given faith, justified, adopted, and in union with Christ. Btw Marrow Men affirmed without holiness no one will see God.

If the Mosaic cov is the same in substance with the new cov, then what John Murray says (what some call monocovenantalism) must be true: “the demand of obedience in the Mosaic covenant is principially identical with the same demand in the new covenant of the gospel economy.”
