Too long. What do lab tests help diagnose? Heart attack, infection, kidney failure, critical electrolyte disturbance, anemia that might need blood transfusion. If your Family Doctor wants answers, waiting 3-4 weeks for one is too long.
We’ve been hearing about the struggles with LifeLabs' wait times, so we looked into it. The data is troubling: not only are wait times excessively long, but delays are getting worse—especially on Vancouver Island. The issue needs urgent attention. #bcpoli @PennyDaflos @CMA_Docs

UBC Student Awarded for Remote Ultrasound Innovation via @TheTyee thetyee.ca/News/2024/11/26/U… Very cool use of tech. I do bedside ultrasound and have played around with AR headsets. The combination hadn’t crossed my mind but this seems like a great way to expand health expertise

Completely unnecessary. If everyone did their part, perhaps we could make measles extinct.
Measles cases rose by 10 million (20%) when vaccine levels dipped below 75% in 2023. This resulted in the deaths of ~100, 000 people in 2023, most of them being children. So either vaccines work, or this is one huge coincidence...

If only there was a way to reduce harmful organisms …maybe by heating food and drink to a certain point for a brief period of time…
The mechanisms of a pandemic are assembling in plain sight. Today, in the Washington Post.

Ditto. I think I saw a 16-18 hour wait one shift. That’s an excruciating amount of time to spend in a waiting room.
Tough weekend of shifts with ED wait times routinely >8-10 hours. Lost count of how many times I've had to respond with: "I would be upset in your shoes too. Our team is working hard tonight and doing our best, now I'd like to focus on how I can best help you."

A shared responsibility: If you’re cycling or walking, use a light and stay visible. If you’re driving, be vigilant. It only takes a moment for your life to be irreparably changed. Signed, An ER Doc

Allowing politics to dictate healthcare decisions is like letting mayors choose your underwear.
Canadians have a right to make personal choices about their health with the support of their families, the guidance of licensed, regulated health professionals and free from political interference. cma.ca/about-us/what-we-do/p…

Not to minimize the suffering in the waiting room but it is those stoic elderly Canadians left for days "boarded" in our ER hallways who are the ones who truly suffer from state sanctioned torture, robbed of their dignity and their basic health care needs unmet.
I think it's because most see the over-full waiting room and think that's the "crowding" we're talking about, rather than the occupied stretchers and internal hallways stuffed with admitted patients.

Unvarnished report. It’s hard to be a patient or healthcare worker some days. Those days seem to be more frequent since I started 20 years ago.

It’s like trying to do dishes constantly but never emptying the dishwasher more than halfway.

It's time once again to remind everyone that emergency department (ED) crowding is not due to low acuity visits. ED crowding is due to hospital crowding and the inability to move admitted patients to the floors. Emergency Physicians can handle busy. It's crowding that kills.

Great points! And unlike other small business owners, Family Doctors can’t increase the fee they charge the government, even if their lease/supplies/utilities/admin staff costs go up.
