Super excited (and nervous) to speak @CSACI_ca#WomenInAllergy meeting next week about the importance of Joy in Work. Fine tuning my slides and taking cues from licensed joyologist Helen Madden
Learning about this topic has changed me personally and professionally. Joy in work (in healthcare) makes things better for healthcare providers and patients. Happier HCPs provide better, safer care.
I also love that this topic allows me to pull non-medical research into the discussion, in particular @BreneBrown Atlas of the Heart, which has been so informative and important in how we can discuss joy.
Healthcare providers all want to do what they can to help take care of patients. As scopes of practice change and often overlap, regulatory boards have a duty to ensure that the care provided is safe and appropriate. @nlpharmacyboard @_nlma 1/x π§΅
Regulatory boards also ensure that professionals are engaging with the public honestly, clearly, and without misrepresentation. @nlpharmacyboard @_nlma 2/x π§΅
Are there similar regulations in NL determining whether a practitioner with a PharmD (doctor of pharmacy, a 5 year undergrad professional training program) can use the label βDr.β? @nlpharmacyboard @_nlma 4/4 π§΅
Dear #AirCanada,
Stop making every allergic patient's life more difficult by requiring a physician signed 8-page document to allow safe accommodations during flying. Our patients and healthcare system do not need this administrative burden.

PLEASE call to cancel.
Itβs that time of year! Poor weather, Xmas season, high spendingβ¦
Your lack of planning results in an increased wait for others & further burden on our broken #healthcare system.
Most teachers say that student behaviour is worst during break and lunchtimes (57% in a recent @TeacherTapp survey).
This was certainly the case at my school so we completely changed our break and lunch routines to sort it out.
Hereβs what we didβ¦π 1/16
Was asked to complete an 11 page form so a patient with #FoodAllergy could travel on a @WestJet flight. Most food allergens are not airborne. This policy creates barriers for food allergy patients, does not improve safety, and downloads work onto doctors.
This reflects the complexity of the barriers to health care experienced by the 2SLGBTQIA community. Not only does this demonstrate institutional biases & homophobia, the response from the Dept of Health demonstrates their gaps in understanding of those issues. 1/13
The problem: primary care crisis
Some facts: 1. most medical students donβt end up in primary care 2. Most primary care residents we train donβt open a practice here
3. 0% of anything is 0
We donβt need more trainees, we need to keep what we have. @_nlma
βYou want to know how to run family practices? You ask family doctorsβ. NL gov please learn from BCβs mistakes. Collaborative and urgent care clinics in BC go unstaffed and cost more while community family practices continue to erode. Please do not follow the same path #nlpoli
Reminder: not all rhinitis is allergic. Diagnosis of AR requires evidence of IgE sensitization (skin testing > serum specific IgE).
Donβt tell your patients they have allergies before theyβve had testing.
NEW | Mice in the hospital are a 'black eye,' say the PCs β but health minister says they're a sign of spring

This week a colleague said βitβs a good thing half my face is masked and the other half is botoxedβ and thatβs the most honest summation of working in healthcare thru a pandemic and primary care crisis.
