The most common question I hear is: "Should I switch from rice to ragi?" My answer often surprises people. Rice, wheat, ragi and millets are all predominantly carbohydrate foods. Simply changing one grain for another does not automatically make a meal diabetes-friendly. The real question is not: "What grain are you eating?" It's: "How is your plate balanced?" A simple approach I recommend is: 🥗 50% non-starchy green leafy vegetables, 🍲 25% protein (Dal, legumes, paneer, fish, eggs or lean meat), 🍚 25% carbohydrates (Rice, chapati, millets or other grains) This helps reduce blood sugar spikes, increases satiety and improves the overall nutritional quality of the meal. Many Indians consume 65–70% of their calories from carbohydrates. By increasing vegetables and protein while moderating carbohydrate portions, we can make our traditional meals healthier without giving up the foods we love. Remember: Don't just change your grains. Change your proportions. Eat more veggies and protein. — Dr. V. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DR AMBRISH MITHAL I have learnt from friends and patients that an advertisement for a drug Diofin for "curing" diabetes is being widely circulated, supposedly endorsed by me. The claim is accompanied with detailed descriptions about my research saying that I discovered and developed this drug. I wish to say that this is completely false. I do not know of this drug and I have not been involved in its development. I have never even heard of this drug prior to this episode. The post also refers to minute details of my life, education and qualifications to seem authentic. All these personal details are also false. I would like to reiterate that this advertisement is a complete fabrication. Please do not get misled. Meanwhile appropriate steps have been initiated to address this false advertising.

Diabetes Files by Dr. V. Mohan – Episode 17 | Based on a True Story In this fascinating episode of Diabetes Files, Dr. V. Mohan shares the true story of a patient who used AI tools such as ChatGPT to track blood sugar levels, understand glucose patterns, and stay more engaged with diabetes management. The results were remarkable. But there is an important lesson. AI can help organize information, identify trends, and improve awareness. However, it cannot replace medical expertise, clinical judgment, or personalized treatment decisions. When technology and healthcare professionals work together, patients often achieve the best outcomes. This episode explores how the combination of AI and doctors can empower people with diabetes to make informed decisions, improve adherence, and take greater control of their health. 📌 Watch till the end to discover how technology is transforming diabetes care and why the future of healthcare may be a partnership between AI, doctors and patients.

"Should I stop eating rice?" Not necessarily. Rice, wheat, ragi and millets are all largely carbohydrate foods. The key to better blood sugar control isn't eliminating one grain and replacing it with another. It's balancing your plate with more veggies and protein and decreasing carbs. #Diabetes #DiabetesDiet #HealthyThali #IndianDiet #DrVMohan #MetabolicHealth #HealthyEating

"Can I still achieve my dreams with Type 1 Diabetes?" "Will my child have a normal life?" I've heard these questions from children, parents and newly diagnosed patients. My answer? Show them Zverev. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 4, he went on to become one of the world's top tennis players. His journey is proof that diabetes requires management, not limitations. Type 1 Diabetes demands discipline, courage and resilience. But it does not take away your potential. Your diagnosis is a chapter of your story, not the ending. 💙 Share this with someone who needs this reminder today. Can a single blood test tell you if you have diabetes? While HbA1c is widely used to monitor diabetes over time, relying on it alone for diagnosis can sometimes lead to inaccurate results and unnecessary label of diabetes and prediabetes. Understanding the difference between diagnosing diabetes and monitoring it is critical for both healthcare professionals and patients. Most people know that air pollution affects the lungs. Fewer realize that it may also affect the pancreas, insulin function, and metabolic health. Emerging evidence suggests that chronic exposure to air pollution can contribute to: • Increased inflammation • Oxidative stress • Insulin resistance • Higher risk of Type 2 Diabetes This challenges the common belief that diabetes is only a consequence of poor diet or lack of exercise. The reality is more complex. Genes matter. Lifestyle matters. And increasingly, research suggests that our environment matters too. As we work towards preventing diabetes, improving air quality may be an important part of the solution. #AirPollution #DiabetesResearch #EnvironmentalHealth #Type2Diabetes #PublicHealth #DrVMohan #MetabolicHealth
