Malcolm @Gladwell came on the show to tell me what a bizarre church-based murder case in Alabama taught him about the death penalty and about forgiveness.

Rhetoric calling for war crimes is a moral horror, under any circumstances. Using the Bible to try to justify targeting civilian populations makes it even worse. It comes from, and leads to, hell.

Over at @notusperspect, several of us gave our answer to the question: where should Washington look for moral authority. We did not all agree. Link below.
He was a great Christian leader and a kind Christian man. Of all of his (many) accomplishments, I was always struck most of all by how much his children, amazing Christian leaders themselves, loved and respected him. That is a legacy beyond measure.
Grieving the death of my friend, hero, and fellow Mississippian John Perkins. He stood up to Jim Crow and stood up for Jesus Christ. Enter into the joy of rest brother. I am grateful for you.
Some ministry news I wish to share. These are very normal things. And, in this case, concerns a plan that’s been in place for several years. We just didn’t want a 3-year farewell. Lol. That would be a bit much.
The letter I wrote beneath the video on YouTube will also help explain. Not retiring. Just laying aside some of the heavier responsibilities so I can spend my last chapter teaching, speaking and writing but not overseeing a busy ministry. I won’t pretend I’ve not cried 10,000 tears and 1000 of them this morning because I love my LPM/LPL teams so much and I can’t even picture the other side without all of them in my constant life. But it is crucial that we make this transition not only for me in my aging but for them in their own vocations so they are set free with my blessing to pursue their next chapters.
I love you guys.

Inward familiarity with Scripture “happens only when people sit still long enough to read, to reflect, to internalize,” writes @drmoore.
“Without that, Christianity devolves into a tribal chanting of slogans, the very thing the gospel came to disrupt.”

Racist. Deranged. Humiliating to our country. The fact that we have decided to pretend to this is normal every day is a moral abomination. Have we any shame?
And every day an entire generation is being told it is “Christian” to support this. God have mercy on us.
Having the guy who runs an infamous torture detention facility where we unlawfully shipped immigrants speak at the National PRAYER breakfast is truly the encapsulating image of 2026
Ask not (only) what’s happening to your country.
Ask what’s happening to *you*.
On ICE, Minneapolis, and the temptation to look away—my new essay at @CTmagazine:
I am sad to hear this. Dr. Stein was my professor and then my colleague- a brilliant and wise man. His doctoral seminar on the gospel of Mark was truly life-changing for me.
I’m sad to hear of the passing of Robert H. Stein. I never had him for class, but he and my dad were colleagues for many years.

After the killing of Renee Good, some Christians summon the biblical chapter Romans 13 to dismiss moral questions about state violence. That’s the opposite of what it teaches.
