I wonder how Chuck Mangione feels about all of this

Every time somebody posts something like this I become a little more convinced that the hype around LLMs is pure unadulterated bullshit. Sounds exactly like the ngmi posts during the crypto era.
PSA: if you don't use LLMs for coding because you've finally acquired enough evidence to convince yourself they "can't reason", you're both 100% right, and about to be left behind just like these who refused to use Google, or git when they came out.

On the surface, I'm disappointed by @Scott_Wiener's support of SB 1524. Surcharges feel sleazy and deceptive. Why can't restaurants just raise their prices to reflect the cost of paying their staff well? If a dish costs $20, plus 5%, why can't they just put $21 on the menu?

And, to be clear, I'm actually asking here. If the fees are working around a technicality for what is or isn't counted as revenue, can't we work on fixing that?

I love San Francisco but it’d be nice if it was just slightly less of a lawless hellscape sometimes

I realized the people I like working with the most have something in common: they're easy to disagree with. A lot goes into that: - strong, well-considered opinions - clear articulation of those opinions - openness to different perspectives

I feel like rail systems in other parts of the world are able to keep functioning normally in bad weather. Like, have you seen that movie Snowpiercer?
BART is running trains at slower speeds due to wet weather. Please add 20 minutes to your planned travel time to factor in delays. Use our Trip Planner and check Real Time Departures on the BART official app or bart.gov

Twitter keeps defaulting back to “For you” instead of “Following”, no matter what I do. I don’t want to mindlessly graze on algorithmically-promoted garbage that’s optimized to get me worked up. If I can’t reliably shut that off, then I’m probably done here. ✌️

Joining an on call rotation gave me a lot of useful perspective. Addressing *everyone's* bugs for a week at a time reinforced that we're all just humans doing our best and making mistakes as we go. I still have imposter syndrome, but I'm much gentler with myself and others.

Why is it important to make engineers feel safe when they're voicing concerns? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citico…

As an engineering leader I care a lot about creating psychological safety, because without it engineers keep concerns to themselves. The work I do has low stakes, but if what we're hearing about Twitter is accurate, and reflects culture at Tesla, I wouldn't trust Autopilot.
