11 years ago today, I was sedated, intubated, put on bypass and my hero cut pieces out of my heart. 8 hrs of surgery and more than a day in a deep deep sleep before I awoke on the 20th. Felt like I’d been run over by a truck but, oddly, I felt … better. #LivingWithHCM

6 yrs ago today I had open heart surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a genetic structural condition afflicting as many as 1 in 500 people (it’s what killed Hank Gathers for the olds among us). This is a PSA even though few may read it. HCM is characterized by 1/
