Join over 50,000 people in signing the FSU’s petition to SAVE JURY TRIALS.
David Lammy is ploughing ahead with plans to restrict our ancient right to trial by jury. He claims it is the only way to tackle the backlog of 80,000 cases in the Crown Court. He is wrong.
The Institute for Government has said his plan would save only 2 per cent of Crown Court time, not the 20 per cent promised by ministers.
Judges, lawyers, MPs and victims of crime have all warned against the Government’s proposals, saying they would undermine public trust in the criminal justice system.
FSU research has shown that those charged with speech-related offences are almost twice as likely to be found not guilty in a Crown Court trial before a jury than in a magistrates’ court without one.
If David Lammy gets his way, more people will be punished simply for exercising their right to free speech.

First the Defence Secretary resigned saying the government is making the country and our troops less safe.
Then the Veterans Minister went, saying the government is abandoning our veterans and it’s harming our national defence.
It’s clear the armed forces have lost all faith in Keir Starmer. A Prime Minister who cannot command the respect of our military cannot continue in office.
Britain’s national security must come before Keir Starmer’s ego. The Prime Minister’s time is up.

State school parents do not in any way subsidise independent schools; if anything it is the other way round because independent school parents pay their taxes that fund the state schools, and they pay the fees for independence school on top. Thirdly, they save the state at least £8000 a year per Child by doing so

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has been forced to relocate its offices following threats from trans activists.
EHRC Chair Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson told the Women and Equalities Select Committee that the watchdog moved premises after threats from the same militant trans activist group that targeted a women’s event in Brighton and the constituency office of Wes Streeting MP. The group also targeted the Free Speech Union earlier this year.
Dr Stephenson told MPs: “We have had to move from our premises near Vauxhall to other premises because of an attack on the building and vandalism by a group that had also vandalised conferences and Wes Streeting’s office.
“I hope that where we are now we are in a safe position, but it is something that I’m very conscious of, particularly in terms of the safety of staff.”

This morning in Parliament, I was accosted by Lib Dem MP Angus MacDonald, who accused me and others of inciting violence. His aggressive approach and tone left me feeling threatened and shaken.
This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, especially from fellow MPs. We all have different views and should be able to disagree respectfully.
The Lib Dems support open borders, while Reform UK supports controlled immigration and putting the British people first.
That’s not inciting violence, that’s doing what’s best for the United Kingdom. 🇬🇧

📣🚨 FSU Victory!!
The Free Speech Union has just heard from South Wales Police that it has withdrawn its guidance on “anti-Muslim hostility”.
The force had effectively adopted its own Islamic blasphemy law, instructing officers to record any conversation that went beyond “legitimate” discussion of Islam.
Under this guidance, criticism of Islam could have been recorded as an anti-social behaviour incident and potentially appeared on DBS checks, affecting someone’s ability to work as a teacher, carer, or in other regulated professions.
South Wales Police has backed down because the Free Speech Union threatened them with a judicial review if it chose to press ahead with the policy.
The force has described this move as a “pause” to the guidance — but we think it is highly unlikely to return.
We must also thank Shadow Equalities Minister @ClaireCoutinho for referring South Wales Police to the Equality and Human Rights Commission after we brought this issue to her attention.
Blasphemy laws were abolished by Parliament 18 years ago. We must not allow them to return through the back door.
Let this be a warning to any other public body — particularly police forces — considering the adoption of its own blasphemy laws.
