Got the project on dynamics on networks that are missing information - links, nodes, or only aggregates. One PhD position and two postdoc positions will be open soon. At present, the team consists of 3 other senior researchers and me. Please retweet.

Home-made spectrometer using a cardboard tube, a piece of diffraction film, razor blades for a narrow slit, and hot glue to connect the parts together. Then I took a long exposure photo of the cooking gas flame. The obtained spectrum matches the wikipedia version!

It turns out that sparkling water and raisins are *fascinating*. My daughter and I happened upon this effect playing together in the kitchen a long time ago, and I couldn't help but explore the system more deeply... 1/n arxiv.org/abs/2308.12927

Electrolysis of CuSO₄ (blue vitriol). The black soot is eroded graphite. Notice how the flow of liquid is revealed. The flow is driven by moving ions in the solution. The copper branches grow were the flow is.

If you're still at #SIAMDS23 and curious how to combine pers. homology and func. stats to detect change in topology of swarms across repeated experiments, visit Thevasha's talk at 3.30p in MS164 meetings.siam.org/sess/dsp_t… If you're looking for a postdoc in #TDA - she would be great!

After a huge amount of work, #JuliaLang 1.9 is finally out, and the results are impressive, solving TTFX for a majority of the users who asked for faster interactive workflows. julialang.org/blog/2023/04/j…

Hi Twitter world! I'd like to organize a minisymposium for the summer SMB 2023 (applications due in about 2 weeks). It would be a section in cellular dynamics (I model ROD cell dynamics/length control (RODs are photoreceptors responsible for periferal vision)!!! @SMB_MathBiology

I truly cannot tell if this is someone who is dangerously bad at electronics who persists at it for some reason or if they know exactly what they’re doing and are genius at physical comedy

When I close my eyes, all I see are strings. I've become somewhat obsessed with the patterns made from stretching straight lines across a circle, better known as string art. Simple rules can yield beautiful patterns and reveal hidden math. Join me on my explorations: 1/🧶

Hey #mathtwitter, any of you studying fractional calculus? Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo derivative papers pop up in many places. There is apparently a cottage industry of papers all similar to each other, replacing "classical" with ABC derivative. Is this a thing or something fishy?

It seems that Atangana and Baleanu are #2 and #4 "ranked" on Ioannidis's list doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio… , ahead of e.g. Ingrid Daubechies and Terrence Tao. Is this a pattern others noticed, or is this just me not knowing (of) a particular math niche?
I learned basic juggling patterns during grad school, mostly to de-stress (shout out to @vprenner ). I still always love to see how much it intersects with math.

This is a really fun lecture on the organization of juggling patterns. It's also an incredible demonstration of juggling talent with exceptional juggling pedagogy. youtube.com/watch?v=38rf9FLh…

I've been a fan of @danbharris @10percent for several years! As a dynamicist, I love that in this TED talk he includes a 2D stable focus ("the toilet vortex") and 3D unstable focus ("cheesy spiral"). The names will be used in my diffeq classes from now on!
