The global waste problem is no longer just a matter of pollution; it has transformed into a massive "Waste Empire" that pushes the boundaries of our planet. Every year, we produce billions of tons of waste, much of which ends up in our oceans, poisons our soil, and causes methane emissions that deepen the climate crisis. Especially single-use plastics and uncontrolled consumption habits are bringing our ecosystems to the brink of irreversible destruction. This mountain of pollution that we merely watch is, in fact, growing every day as a result of our inaction.
However, there are also promising examples that break this dark picture. Rising in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, CopenHill (Amager Bakke) proves to the whole world that waste is not just "trash," but if designed correctly, it can be a "source" and a "tool for entertainment." Located right in the heart of the city, this facility provides electricity and heating for tens of thousands of households by incinerating Copenhagen’s waste. But what makes it truly unique is the artificial ski slope, climbing wall, and hiking trails on its roof! CopenHill transforms a waste plant into the city's most popular social space, introducing the concept of "Hedonistic Sustainability" into our lives. In other words, it offers a model where we can protect nature while enjoying life at the same time.
Now it's your turn—the youth, who are the "Energy of Nature!"
We don't need to go to Denmark to ski to save the future; we can start the change with our own talents.
Our greatest strength is to stop before consuming and ask, "Do I really need this?", to analyze the lifespan of our waste in nature, and to redesign them through upcycling instead of throwing them away.
By creating our own zero-waste routes, carrying our flasks with us, and turning the algorithm of the digital world in favor of nature, we can shake this empire to its foundations.
Remember, the solution to the climate crisis lies not only in new technologies but also in this new and constructive communication language that we will build.
