The realest part of A New Hope is the fact the Death Star wasn’t ready to shoot once Yavin IV was in firing range, you can guarantee Tarkin/fire control didn’t really bother to synch with the Starfighter defence in the trench run.

It’s one of those plot holes where I think its probably the realest thing in the movie

This genuinely got me thinking. ive gone my entire life without really thinking about Australia or Australians. Never felt the need to, tbh. They were never on my radar. And now im watching people spend an entire day mocking a Turkish child for crying over a football match. It's a strange feeling because, from my perspective, Australians have mostly existed as a footnote in a chapter of our history books. So seeing people act like they've achieved some historic triumph because a 10 year old Turkish kid cried after a game is genuinely hilarious. Weve spent the last century barely acknowledging their existence, while they're apparently celebrating a football win by taking victory laps around an elementary school student. I didn't realize the rivalry was this one sided lmao

Canberra suburb names, people are like “I live in David” and I’m like “idk where that is” and they’ll say some shit like “oh it’s near Hyde and Pierce”

My “yes, but….” is balancing building an entirely new production line from scratch, versus developing an entirely new type. I’d rather new builds of yesterday’s aircraft if there’s no cleat sign of what’s to replace it
Usual tired reminder that production "restarts" are not a thing, in defence or elsewhere. There is no line where you just flick bunch of switches back on. You are building a new line, for what is essentially a new product. With the corresponding cost. twz.com/air/boeing-encourage…

Pointing out the obvious (although it’s necessary to do so), there’s a minimum threshold for how many airframes are needed for this to be economical. From 1990 to 2015, MDD/Boeing sold 279 units; and that size run was never guaranteed from the outset.

The Royal Australian Air Force’s third MC‑55A Peregrine has officially arrived at RAAF Base Edinburgh. Since the Government announced the acquisition of four MC‑55A aircraft, Defence has successfully delivered three of the four platforms to the fleet. #AusAirForce #YourADF

Looking at where Bond franchise was in the late 70s and early to mid 80s, and looking at where Spielberg was at that point of his career, and all I can say is….good?

By the late 70s the Broccolis had settled the franchise into an effectively extended family reunion every two years, with the same Director, Writers, Prod Design, Composer*, Stunt Team, etc. Spielberg is been an amazing disrupter but I also think Cubby was right to shut him out.

I have to emphasise I would rather the Indiana Jones series instead of Spielberg Moonraker
Replying to @eamonhamilton
At best it would have given us Spielberg’s Moonraker instead of 1941, and potentially (likely?) denied us Raiders of the Lost Ark - and maybe the entire Indy franchise. And assuming he would have been one-and-done, I don’t think it would have set Bond franchise up for success.

Sydney is a city of 5.6 million people and yet still too small to grasp the idea of being serviced by two airports

Tweeting anything in favour of Nancy Bird airport invariably draws criticism of its transport link issues (valid!) or “how will this help North Shore!!! (who cares), but I just know someone will complain to me about its environmental impact.

The biggest criticism i have is that like all of Sydney’s infrastructure projects, it’s 20 years overdue, and in the meantime unchecked urban sprawl without adequate transport links and distributed employment hubs condemns residents to a life in traffic, thanks for listening.
