People need to stop spreading this myth. Recycling is far from perfect, but it is real, displaces millions of tons from landfill and has proven environmental advantages including lowering GHG emissions.
The little boy in me is just as excited to watch Venus hit backhand winners β₯οΈπ₯Ή I'm glad she is getting the attention and recognition she deserves whenever she steps on court now. Icon π
I'm also glad they used their winners speech to push for more marketing for doubles and raise the issue of the lack of inclusion for doubles players. It had to be done.
If this format is here to stay, the US Open will have to find a way to be more inclusive for doubles players. Seeing top single players trying to figure their way out of a great doubles team is actually super entertaining.
Easiest option would be to use either singles or doubles in the combined ranking. Or if they want to ensure the presence of the singles stars, have 6 spots reserved for singles rankings, 6 for doubles and 4 WCs?
Two things can be true! This format of mixed doubles with stars is quite fun AND it shouldn't be considered as a Grand Slam event. Just like Laver Cup doesn't count as an ATP title.
The Mboko story is insane, but it's quite something how three of the best players of the decade literally crumbled against her. Crowd effect? She's also quite athletic and forces the errors?
In theory, the 2 semis in the same session looked awesome on paper in this new format. But both in Montreal and Toronto the second semis are just gonna have no attention as it's so late. Earlier start maybe?
One thing I strongly miss from a one-week event is the feeling around the grounds. It feels so dead without all the side matchs happening around, less practices. R16 used to be 8 matches in the same day and it was glorious. Now its just main court. As a fan, it kinda sucks tbh.
One thing is that most other 10 day events are mixed (IW/Miami/Rome/Madrid). Therefore you double the amount of matches going on around the grounds. In the case of Montreal/Toronto it just doesn't make sense as you don't have enough matches in each draw to fill up the site.
Now Days 01/02 don't have much big names as the 32 seeds have BYEs, Days 03/04 have all top players/feel busy but match quality can be mid as no seeds face off, and Days 05-10 seem like semifinal days with most matches happening on big courts. I miss Wed/Thurs of past years π
