"You can only coach somebody to the depth of your relationship with them. The better you know them, the harder you can coach them. If it's a surface-level relationship, it will be surface-level coaching."
-Dan Quinn
With the conversation on how much coaches and staff are working in the 'new era' of college football heating back up this past week; I thought I'd share a small bit of unpolished perspective I've gained over the past 25 years…

"The most important thing a head coach does is hire his staff. It's all about the people around you. Without the right staff... you are nothing."
-Dan Campbell
We we be in Dallas for the biggest week in football! E4 will speak to the All-Americans on their journey to understand their strengths and limitations, control their anxiety, focus their concentration, and harness the power of their motive to control the level of their performance.
Coaches-you are more than the game.
We talk about athlete identity and making sure our athletes know they are more than their performance. We must also provide the same narrative for coaches.
Coaching is what you do...it is not who you are.
Keep perspective on who you are vs what you do.
In addition to a coach-you are a husband, wife, father, mother, friend.
Find the time to focus on one of those today in addition to your title of Coach.
There isn't one thing that is “The Answer” when it comes to coaching and developing your athletes.
There is the first step–understanding them.
Their “Why", their strengths, their limitations, the do's and don'ts on interacting with them.
Could this be your EDGE as a program?
You have the opportunity as a coach to replace an athlete’s fear with connection.
You can be a place that your athlete can belong.
Belonging is a powerful weapon against fear. It allows people to take risks and know that, win or lose, they have someone who cares about them.
Our mission has been uncovering who an athlete is-those hard to see motives behind their performance–Their WHY.
This is the key to cultivating true greatness.
Knowing your athlete is one thing.
But knowing their WHY is everything!
