I think fandom spaces have slowly forgotten that there are real people behind the things we love.
Passion is beautiful. Discussions, theories, headcanons, analysis, all of that is part of what makes being in a fandom fun and special. But lately it feels like some people are so attached to the version of a project they created in their own head that they stop engaging with what’s actually being presented 😔
And honestly… I worry about what that does to creators.
Not every creative choice is an attack. Not every scene has hidden intentions. Not every decision needs to become a public outrage thread. Sometimes a story is just a story and sometimes creators are simply trying their best to make something meaningful, entertaining or personal ✨
Constructive criticism is valid. People are allowed to dislike things. But there’s a difference between sharing an opinion and constantly speaking about creators in a way that’s harsh, entitled, or dehumanizing.
The internet has made it really easy to post every emotion instantly, but I do think some thoughts are healthier left as private conversations instead of public pile ons.
I can’t imagine creating something I deeply love only to feel afraid of my own audience or feel pressured to constantly defend myself against interpretations I never even intended.
I don’t know. I just think we need more empathy online. More grace. More remembering that creators are people too 💜🌈
