I am loathe to agree with Yglesias, but getting rid of IMPACT would be bad. They've done a lot of work to attend to the unintended consequences and really I am worried about world with no accountability for the most disadvantaged students.

It also does nothing to alter the culture of assessment or the stakes associated with success or failure (presumably one reason why studies show that grade inflation is higher at more affluent schools). 10/

I suspect state university systems need to be first movers in trying to address this issue bc they control a lot of the desired rewards and likely have more (local) credibility. Still, the “fix” will have to be as much cultural, structural than technical (eg forced curves). 11/x
