May was a month of rapid responses, community collaboration, and conservation action across the Mara landscape. From guiding one of Mara Elephant Project's longest-collared elephants, Polaris, away from a community settlement boundary, to training new VirtualRanger community leaders and supporting conservation efforts through @Rhino_Charge, our teams remained committed to protecting wildlife and supporting the communities that live alongside it. buff.ly/mUdX8Pp

Long-term impact in the Mara is only possible because of consistent support from people like you. Recurring donors make it possible for Mara Elephant Project to respond to human–elephant conflict, monitor elephant movements, and protect the open landscapes that support both wildlife and livelihoods. This steady support helps our teams stay equipped and ready in the field, whether they are tracking elephants, supporting communities, or working to reduce conflict before it escalates. By joining our Recurring Donor Club, you are helping sustain the work that protects elephants and strengthens coexistence across the Greater Mara ecosystem. As a thank you, recurring donors receive an exclusive MEP Recurring Donor Club pin, available only to monthly supporters. Join the club today and be part of the steady support behind conservation in action: buff.ly/1oOsMkB

Kipekee is one of the youngest in our Nursery herd – and the most influential. When she dashes around the stockades in excitement, the others do the same. When she runs into the forest, they jog along behind. The Keepers have a phrase for it: Kipekee & Co. Muridjo does most of the nanny shifts but you can also become a guardian to Kipekee too. Adopting Kipekee helps fund her milk, her Keepers, and her years of growing up with the herd that's already devoted to her: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

Everything we accomplish for elephants, communities, and coexistence is made possible by supporters like you. We've recently added new items to our Amazon Wish List that directly support daily field operations and help our teams continue protecting elephants, livelihoods, and the landscapes they share. If you've ever wondered how you can make a tangible difference, this is a simple way to be part of our mission. Every item purchased goes directly to the people doing the work on the ground and helps ensure they have the tools they need to respond, monitor, and protect. Your generosity powers Mara Elephant Project. Thank you for standing with our rangers and the communities they serve. Make a difference today: buff.ly/PHv65Fi

When an impossible human-elephant conflict situation arises, the entire Mara Elephant Project toolbox is deployed. For days a bull elephant was entering the same settlement most likely attempting to navigate to another area of the landscape, getting stuck then turning around. After receiving a call from the community, MEP rangers rapidly responded to find an escalating situation. The elephant was most likely disoriented and determined to pass even with people and property embedded along his path. Relying on their mitigation training, tools and techniques, our rangers deployed a drone to guide the elephant from above and their vehicle and firecrackers (completely harmless to the elephant) on the ground to encourage him to take a different path around the settlement. MEP rangers continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the elephant does not return and that the community remains safe.

Wonderful, breaking news! Early this morning, ex-orphan Melia returned to introduce a brand new baby girl to Head Keeper Benjamin and the rest of the Ithumba team. Moon, as we’ve named her, is Melia’s second baby. She is a lovely little elephant, bold and brimming with character. More to come, but we wanted to share the news in real time. Supporters like you make these stories possible: enabling us to rescue orphans like Melia, dedicate years to their recovery, and help them reclaim their place in the wild – paving the way for a new generation of wild elephants, like baby Moon. If you're new to our work, discover how every rescue has the potential to forge future dynasties here: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…
