Great to see BGS member @lucypgeridoc on BBC Morning Live talking about falls - you can watch the full video below.
🩺Around a third of over 65s will have at least one fall this year. Geriatrician @lucypgeridoc explains why should reframe the conversation when it comes to 'having a fall' vs 'falling over'. She also has exercises to help stability. Watch in full here: bbc.in/4aEEQk6

“Hospitals can disempower patients, they become institutionalised. Boredom is probably your biggest immobiliser. People need a reason to get up, get dressed and be active.” 100% this👆🏻#homefirst #endpjparalysis@ReconGamesUKthetimes.co.uk/article/times…

💓 Lying ➡️ standing B.P 🏥 It's not 'only' a nursing task. 💥It's a powerful & informative ax that integrates some much needed movement (a stand) into any interaction. #AHPs need to consider ax it more often too. #EndPjParalysis #Deconditioning

⚡ We sometimes get cause and effect the wrong way round, and this clouds our judgement about what to do next. Encouraging movement comes with risk, but the alternative is even worse❗

🌟 The simplest interventions are often the most impactful. ❌ Don't ever believe that the simple action of encouraging a patient to stand is unimportant. 💥 It might just be THE thing that preserves their independence❗ #EndPjParalysis #Deconditioning

Hospital acquired deconditioning (HAD) is often an avoidable harm that we can manage better! Why aren't we measured on this. And if we were do you think HAD would reduce? Resulting in improved function, reduced delirium, maintained muscle mass, and more ppl returning home
