The smuggling in of a realist bio-medical ontology of being always attempts to over-rule the phemomenological being of an individual in favour of an institutionalised set of abstractions.
Psych language is designed to make the fictitious appear factual, to make harms appear a necessary trade off, & to give an aura of solid foundation to castles built in the sky.

“Our mental health sector has become 'the new opium of the people' by working to pathologise the social suffering that would otherwise galvanise people to political action - spreading an ideological sedative powerful enough to disable the human impulse for social reform.”

1/2 By @JDaviesPhD (see reply for full thread): “One of the most significant barriers to social justice in recent decades has emerged from the mental health field itself, in the form of an ideology now so pervasive and well-protected by powerful interests that it often escapes critical scrutiny in popular public discourse. “This ideology, which originated in the institutions of bio-psychiatry in the early 20th century, has rapidly spread across most Western societies since the 1980s, propelled by pharmaceutical interests, the over-pathologisation of emotional distress, and neoliberal governance. “In essence, this ideology has increasingly framed emotional suffering as a sign of internal dysfunction or disorder best treated with psych-interventions. Since the 1980s, these interventions have predominantly been psycho-pharmaceutical (for example, nearly one quarter of adults in many Western nations are now prescribed psychiatric drugs annually), and 'adaptive' insofar as these interventions have prioritised reintegrating suffering and straying individuals back into an assumed 'functional' and healthy status quo.”

The Labour Party represent the safe hands the capitalist class and imperialism where lacking under Sunak.
🚨 NEW: David Lammy confirms Labour has DITCHED its plans to recognise a Palestinian state. Labour will instead delay recognition indefinitely, making it conditional on Israel feeling "safe and secure" as part of a "credible" and "viable" peace process.

For those who see value in reproducing the systems of domination in which they are positioned at the top, university education should only function to perpetuate their dominance. Naturally subjects which offer the ability to challenge this are discouraged and ridiculued.
They scream "STEM only" because they're aware that subjects that are powerfully designed to cause one to think critically & creatively (Arts & Humanities; social sciences) is a HUGE threat to oppressive powers. Don't be fooled to think they truly believe these degrees are useless

It will effectively be able to email a supervisor at midnight with a draft chapter and a subtle hint about a impending breakdown
Will it have PhD-level imposter syndrome too?

"I am sitting with a philosopher in the garden; he says again and again 'I know that that's a tree', pointing to a tree that is near us. Someone else arrives and hears this, and I tell him: 'This fellow isn't insane. We are only doing philosophy." Ludwig Wittgstein, On Certainty

Once your distress has been medicalised, medicated & depoliticised, the government will now prescribe its final remedy: cutting your financial support so that you're now forced to return to the precarious, low paid & demoralising work that made you miserable in the first place.

One of the greatest findings of 20th century anthropology is that social structures shape psychological structures, and one of the greatest failings of modern psychology is to have almost entirely ignored this.

It's never been about protection or kids.
Alabama just passed a bathroom ban for transgender adults in colleges and universities. It was never about "the children," and always about absolute exclusion from public life. SB129 also bans "divisive concepts" and "DEI" in colleges. Horrifying bill.

Trans people are being used as a pawn in a right-wing culture war perpetrated by big business backed politicians think tanks and sickophantic mouth pieces as part of a gradual justification and enboldment of Social and economic horrors of late stage capitalism.
1. Brutal anti-trans politics in England may have met their match in an unlikely opponent... ferrets? Members of Parliament, including some conservatives, filibustered a gender affirming care ban that would have applied to private clinics in the country pushed by Liz Truss.
