how would we even go about teach patois? there’s no standardized spelling for anything you can just freestyle it and it’s still valid.

This is a very touching moment for me! To see Claude McKay remembered as a black Jamaican man who was socialist and had “queer sensibilities”.
This proves we can tell stories about queer Jamaicans who contributed to arts and culture without the violence of queer erasure.

#FunFact • There actually is an established writing system for the Jamaican language (Di Jamiekan Langwij) / Patois / Patwa - The Cassidy JLU system. It may not be widely used by the average citizen but it does exist ♡

Haitian Creole has its own alphabet and writing system which also existed before modern french(which is why French and African people don’t understand Creole)
Jamaicans don’t have their own alphabet and writing system which makes Patois a dialect not a language
